About
Piper Houghes
Author · Sports Romance · Debut 2027
Piper Houghes writes sports romance where the woman is the athlete — not the love interest orbiting one. Her work sits at the intersection of sports journalism and romance fiction: someone who knows what intramedullary nailing is, and knows why the slow burn matters.
She grew up playing hockey on outdoor rinks in the upper midwest, where she learned that the cold is not your enemy — the cold is just honest. That sensibility shapes every page she writes: declarative, bodied, specific. “Six pins. One rod. Fourteen weeks.” Not “a long recovery.”
Her debut novel, Breakaway Blades, follows figure skater Dani Kowalski’s return from a femur fracture and the slow-burn relationship that develops with the team physician she isn’t supposed to trust. It is a novel about comeback, medical realism, and the specific courage it takes to load weight on a repaired bone and trust it to hold.

The Thesis
The brand’s philosophical anchor. The woman is the protagonist. She doesn’t step aside when she heals — she loads weight on the repaired bone and skates on it. That’s the book. That’s the newsletter. That’s what Piper Houghes writes.
